    ◉ Introduction and objectives:

    In this article, we will briefly explain the new invention of a battery charging system inside all-electric vehicles (EBV) without the need for level one, two, and three charging stations.


    Plug-in Hybrid Electric vehicles, with a combination of a combustion engine and an electric motor, have a very low risk of running out of energy for their propulsion along the way but in BEV (Battery Electric Vehicles), the only source of energy is the batteries, which makes it difficult to recharge BEVs in remote areas where there is no access to DC charging stations or AC sources if the battery cells run out.

    The structure of the new generation batteries consists of solid electrolyte technology and anode-less technology, which increases the cathode capacity and allows for more energy storage in the battery. The energy density in the latest solid-state batteries for electric vehicles is very high and is estimated to be approximately 550 Wh/kg. The high energy density in such batteries, as promised by their manufacturers (Toyota and Honda), which of course have not yet fulfilled this promise as of the date of this article, will provide the ability to travel a distance of more than 900 to 1200 km per charge at a fast level. However, despite the imminent arrival of the first generation of solid-state batteries, there will still be a dependence on a DC or AC source to recharge BEV vehicles. It is clear that equipping the vehicle with a "Regenerative Braking" system does not have the necessary capability to charge batteries with a cruising capacity, especially in the category of BEV but the most effective use of the recycled energy produced during deceleration or braking is to alternately reduce the number of times the battery is charged and discharged. This positive performance from the regenerative braking system certainly reduces the likelihood of battery damage and increases the life of the braking system.

    To better understand the challenge of recharging, we need to consider the energy efficiency factor. For example, after one hour of charging for a maximum output of 22 kW of chemical cell batteries with a DC power supply, based on the calculation of the ratio of input power to electric motor torque, the resulting output is approximately equal to the energy required by the electric motor to travel approximately 120 km. However, if the vehicle stops after a certain distance due to the depletion of the chemical cell battery or solid electrolyte battery (with a range of 600 km) in a place where there is no charging station, this is where we need an alternative solution to increase the reliability factor of energy storage.


    Despite the solutions provided, such as increasing battery life, reducing charging time and increasing energy storage in solid electrolyte batteries but these solutions are still not sufficient, and the need for charging stations within and outside the city remains as one of the main components in the energy production and consumption cycle.


    Given the challenge of the urgent need to recharge the battery at different intervals (depending on the type of battery), I decided to create a new idea that would both greatly reduce an EV's dependence on charging stations and lead to a reduction in the demand for energy production from ozone-depleting (fossil) fuels, which, unfortunately, despite their serious and destructive environmental consequences, are still used in many parts of the world as the only fuel for energy production in large power plants.

    To build an electric car using free wind power, wind farms were my design inspiration. To achieve the initial sketch of the body design, I had to make changes proportional to the pressure difference between the collision of air molecules with the center of gravity of a static object compared to a dynamic object in the nose of the car, because the type of pressure received in a wind turbine of a power plant is very different from a car when it moves. In fact, wind is an air flow that moves from places of high pressure to places of low pressure so, considering this factor, if we artificially create a pressure difference between two points, wind will be created and will move in the opposite direction of the pressure, and the body of a car when it moves will create this pressure difference well.

    In power plants, due to the variability of wind, most wind turbine generators are unable to produce energy continuously, which is due to the static state of the turbines, but in vehicles, due to the dynamic, friction and form coefficient, it is possible to produce wind and use it as continuous energy. The intensity of the air flow will increase if the pressure gradient (pressure difference) between two points increases and this formed the structure and main basis of my idea and design for the nose concept with the aim of increasing the pressure gradient. The pressure gradient should be considered as an important factor in optimizing the aerodynamic condition and reducing the drag coefficient of a vehicle, and it is also important to create a continuous flow of pressure to transfer power and convert it into energy for a vehicle that intends to generate electricity from pressure force.

    To implement a wind power energy generation system, we need a specific body design, especially in the front nose. While moving, the car has a high collision coefficient with nitrogen, oxygen, argon and carbon dioxide molecules, which are evaluated as variable functions in the face of pressure changes. According to the thermodynamic effect, by controlling and changing the position of particles due to changing parameters such as volume and pressure (gas molecules in the air), the average kinetic energy can be increased by their effectiveness in colliding with a surface.

    Considering the principles of thermodynamics, I did a re-shaping to make the most of the pressure gradient, replacing the usual front window with two large inlets to increase the pressure difference between the two points. In other words, when the car is in a static position, there is no difference in the PA rate (pressure/Pascal unit of measurement), but as the air density (ρ) and the car speed (V) [the determining parameters of CFD in fluid dynamics simulation testing] moves, the PA rate also changes and if the speed increases, the pressure gradient also increases. These increases create kinetic energy of the air molecules to produce a continuous source of wind.

    As seen in the video at the end of the article and the gallery of images related to the design of the fascia, there are 5 air pressure inlets in the front of fascia, including 2 large main inlet openings in the center of fascia, 2 secondary inlet openings on both sides of the nose corners (Overhang), along with 1 air pressure inlet with a suction slope on the hood surface. In terms of air pressure suction volume, the diameter of the two large main inlet openings in the center of Fascia is larger than the diameter of the other 3 inlets. The diameter of all 5 air inlets where they merge into one tube (closer to the turbine) is considered smaller to increase the thermodynamic effect of the average kinetic energy.


    According to computer simulation tests, the drag coefficient (Cd) for the body design of this car varied from about 0.4 to 0.5. Of course, this high coefficient is due to the aerodynamic form of the design and if we remove the air intake in this car, considering the smoothness of the lines and the principle of pressure escape, the drag coefficient will be greatly reduced and will reach close to 0.22. Although reducing the drag coefficient is considered a standard component in reducing energy consumption but, we must also note that a very low drag coefficient at high speeds reduces the adhesion factor and increases the possibility of the car separating from the road surface and causing an accident at high speeds. In other words, designing the nose of the body with a sharp concept not only reduces the visual beauty of the car, but such a situation also reduces the adhesion of the car and takes the aerodynamic balance of the body out of a stable state. On the other hand, a high drag coefficient also leads to an increase in Downforce, which leads to an increase in air pressure resistance and more fuel consumption for energy production. Therefore, calculating the aerodynamic balance of the body is of particular importance in vehicle design.

    The solution I designed to reduce the impact of the air flow on the nose of this car is to transfer and move the air flow without stopping after entering the "air intake and swallowing" and exiting the rear of the car. In other words, after entering the front of the car, the wind enters the tunnel leading to the wind turbine chamber by the drag coefficient (Cd) effect and after creating the force required to rotate the turbine blades and the wind generator rotor, it exits the rear of the car by passing over the surface of the battery panels. This method repels pressure and continues the air flow from the front nose to the rear of the body, which ultimately leads to a reduction in the friction coefficient in the car and a reduction in average energy consumption. With this idea, we have both helped reduce the drag coefficient and significantly increased the performance of the batteries.

    In this vehicle, in order to use the voltage generated by the internal turbine system, an initial charging stage needs to be performed by an external DC source so that after moving, the vehicle can provide its reduced charge storage using only the internal turbine. In other words, with only one "initial full charge", the vehicle will be able to continue its navigation until the "maximum system life" by relying on the internal wind turbine without the need and dependence on an external charging source. This system is considered an important advantage for remote locations where access to any home charging source or DC and AC charging stations is not possible.


    Since PMSGs (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generators) are unable to generate electrical power at a constant frequency in response to variable wind speed, they must be connected to the output line through converters. For example, AC power generated with variable frequency and amplitude must first be converted to a constant DC value by a converter to enable its storage in the battery. In this context, in the engine design of this vehicle and considering the combined cycle of energy production from wind propulsion, I have used a Synchronous Generator with the addition of a rectifier to convert alternating current to DC so that the output voltage can be stored in the battery and the force required to produce torque and apply it to the shaft of the electric motors can be easily done.


    A synchronous generator is an AC machine that is very efficient at converting mechanical energy into electrical energy and storing it in a lithium-ion battery. In a synchronous generator, direct current is transmitted to the rotor winding of the generator and acts as a driving force to increase the rotational speed of the magnetic field produced by the stator, which can then produce a constant output voltage and frequency. The rotational speed of a synchronous generator is directly related to the frequency and number of poles designed in this type of generator. In other words, a synchronous generator can efficiently generate electricity by maintaining the correct rotational speed and can be used for stable operation of DC current storage in batteries.

    In this vehicle, the electricity generation system can be optimized from the movement of the wind turbine rotor, and various types of DC or AC generators can be used along with a converter to convert AC to DC or change the voltage and frequency required. For example, permanent magnet synchronous generators are suitable for use in various types of wind turbines due to their high power density and low mass, because the coil used in this type of generator eliminates the field and power losses. Although controlling the magnetic field is not easy and requires advanced systems that can vary the total cost of production but, there is always the possibility of changing and replacing the type of generator according to technological innovations.


    The shape and dimensions of the chamber that houses the turbine blades are designed to have the most suction from the 5 wind tunnel inlets. Although the wind movement from the nose inlet of the vehicle to the turbine suffers have a small amount of pressure drop due to movement in the wind tunnel but this anti-pressure effect is compensated by the rapid rotation of 16 highly flexible rubber blades that are connected to the hydraulic shaft and due to the suction force structure of the wind tunnel, the necessary force is created for stable and rapid rotation of the hydraulic shaft axis and transmission to the rotor. This air pressure flow, after passing over the battery panels (which are installed under the cabin and on the vehicle chassis) leads to their cooling and temperature reduction and then exits from the outlet near the two rear wheels.


    According to the computer simulation test (the equation of the ratio of the displacement to the change in pressure), if the vehicle moves at a speed of 100 km/h and creates an air pressure of 62.1371 MPH, we can be sure that after 1 hour of continuous driving, the vehicle will be able to fully charge the battery internally without the need for any external charging source. Of course, at lower speeds, such as 60 km/h and creating an air pressure of 37.2823 MPH, the vehicle will still be able to charge its batteries up to a maximum of 65% of the required efficiency.

    It is clear that such recharge efficiency, in situations where there is no other way to recharge an EBV, can be considered a vital and positive factor in vehicles equipped with this technology.


    Like other inventions, this invention also has the potential for further development and optimization in the use of free and clean energy, and with commercialization, it can make a significant contribution to preventing the increase in harmful and greenhouse gases.
