    ◉ Introduction and objectives:

In this article, we will briefly examine the invention of a powerful electric aircraft motor with the ability to charge batteries during flight.

Interest in using electric propulsion is growing rapidly, but the interest in aviation has not kept pace with other industries, including ground transportation, as expected. One of the reasons that has prevented the use of electric motors in aircraft is the amount of power output relative to the weight of the motor and the energy storage source (batteries). Currently, electric motors add excessive weight to the aircraft's overall weight by requiring a battery array as the sole power source. This is a serious challenge on long-haul flights because energy consumption increases due to the increased weight, and the energy storage of aircraft batteries is unable to compensate for the energy consumption over long distances.

On the other hand, the use of other current alternative methods, such as batteries connected to solar panels or battery charging via a wireless power system (WPT) with microwave transmission (MPT), is in its early stages of development and does not have a real and serious use to compensate for the reduction in the power reserve of an aircraft's battery. Although extensive research is ongoing to better develop these technologies, the reality is that it is currently not possible to use such alternatives to safely fly an aircraft over long distances, and we must wait for further technological advances in the field of using energy from sunlight or wave transmission (MPT).

Currently, the only way to generate electric propulsion in an aircraft is to use electrical energy stored in batteries. In many ways, electric motors have an advantage over gasoline engines because they can generate a higher net energy efficiency than a fossil fuel engine (ICE). The strength of electric motors is the reduction in net energy consumption for use in their propulsion, because an electric motor consumes less than half the energy required to produce power (compared to internal combustion engines). In addition to reducing energy consumption as a positive factor in electric motors, the weight and accessories of this category of motors cause limitations in the choice of the type of propulsion system. In other words, when choosing the type of motor, we should consider very important issues such as the ratio of the power of the electric motor to its weight and the ratio of the energy produced by the motor to the weight added to the entire aircraft.

The next challenge in electrifying the commercial aviation industry, along with the sheer weight of batteries added to an aircraft, is the time it takes to charge the batteries. For example, the largest aircraft take about 30 minutes to refuel with A-1 jet fuel (a type of kerosene that is suitable for most turbine-powered aircraft) and if we compare this rapid refueling time to fully charging all the batteries for a typical aircraft, we will reach a difference of several hours! Of course, this current challenge is being solved by developing new generation batteries with very fast charging, but still new solutions need to be provided for the power-to-weight ratio of the electric propulsion.

To overcome the current limitation in generating more power from an electric motor (the ratio of engine to weight), I have proposed a new idea for the structure of an aircraft electric motor that in initial computer tests has achieved 10 times more power and speed than similar motors using the same energy supply. Although more tests need to be done to see how consistently the torque produced by this new engine performs under different conditions but, under standard conditions it seems that this design could be very efficient for its low weight for use in light-bodied aircraft. Along with this design, I also presented a complementary idea to reduce the weight of the batteries and allow them to be charged during flight that below, I will briefly explain the details of how both of these ideas work.

◉ Technical description of the invention:

As can be seen in the computer simulation (video at the end of this article) and the images attached to this article, I used a (L) commercial aircraft [Light type], to attach this new engines to its fuselage. If these engines can pass the same and successful tests under all conditions, it is hoped that it will be possible to equip larger aircraft (M) with this type of engine by increasing the number of engines to 4 or even 6 electric motors.

In this light model of the aircraft, I used two electric motors with a new design to produce powerful and faster torque compared to current motors, because by creating a faster and more powerful electric motor, then the propellers connected to the motor shaft will rotate using more uniform and continuous mechanical energy. The size of the propellers is also directly related to the production of pressure. In other words, with the powerful and fast rotation of larger propellers in an electric motor it is possible to fly heavier bodies by the creation of a greater pressure difference caused by faster rotation.

Most current electric motors use the interaction between a magnetic field and an electric current in a coil to generate force in the form of torque and apply it to the motor shaft. Along with the advantages of this type of motor, there are also limitations on the maximum speed of rotation of the rotor and its transmission to the shaft axis. This means that the speed of rotation of the rotor is proportional to the intensity of the magnetic field created by the stator and the torque produced does not have the ability to increase the kinetic energy in the transmission stage to the shaft so, the shaft rotates at the same speed as the rotor rotates in the magnetic field of the stator. This is because the voltage within the rotor conductor creates magnetic poles that have a strong attraction to the stator poles, and since the number of these poles is the same as the number of stator poles, the rotor poles will rotate at the same rate as the stator poles rotate.

According to computer testing of the rotation of the main motor shaft (video at the end of the article), it is possible to increase the speed and power by 10 times in the stage of transmitting torque to the output shaft axis. This increase in power and speed occurs because I removed the shaft axis in the middle of the rotor and placed the rotor as a floating ring in a closed (vacuum) casing with a sliding wall on the bearing. The large radius of this circular cover helps the rotor travel a greater distance within the stator magnetic field with each rotation. Placing the rotor on the sliding bearing grooves reduces friction and increases the rotor's rotational speed, which in turn increases the torque in the motor.

I used a hybrid hybrid gearbox on the outer radius axis of the rotor rotation path to increase the speed and power in the torque transmission phase to the motor propeller hub. Also, I transferred the force generated by the rotation to the smaller gear at the input of the hybrid gearbox by connecting the main gear to the rotor (with the same radius). In other words, with each time a magnetic field is created, the rotor and then the gear connected to it will rotate, and the force will be transmitted to the shaft of the combined gearbox. This rotating effect is due to the polarity of the rotor poles passing in front of the permanent poles of the stator field.

Approximately one complete rotation of the hybrid gearbox is created with every 36 degrees of rotation of the gear connected to the rotor. And with every 360 degrees of complete rotation of the large gear connected to the rotor, the hybrid gearbox axis rotates 10 times. This rotation is transmitted to the shaft connected to the hub and the blades located at the front of the engine and leads to the rapid and powerful rotation of this electric motor. Ultimately, the air pressure produced by the engine propeller will allow to move and fly a large weight of the aircraft body. The important point of this design is that due to the location of the main gear in the vacuum chamber and on the sliding bearing grooves, the 360-degree rotation of the main gear does not lead to an increase in energy consumption from the batteries because the energy consumption per torque generated (with a slight dispersion index) will be almost the same as if we remove the main gear and add the shaft again.

To reduce the weight of the electric motor assembly, I reduced the number of battery panels and replaced the batteries removed from the panel with an in-flight charging system. In this way, the aircraft will be able to continuously compensate for the decrease in energy storage in the batteries during flight using the pressure force generated. Using this idea, it will be possible to impose less weight on the aircraft so, to achieve this, I added a small, lightweight generator inside the wing of the aircraft in the air outlet path behind the propeller of each electric motor, which is responsible for generating electricity and transferring it to the converters and storing DC power in batteries.

The movement of the aircraft, along with the rotation of the large propeller blades, creates a very high air pressure in the form of a linear vortex towards the rear of the aircraft. This pressure causes the generators to spin rapidly, powerfully, and continuously by touching the generator propeller and it compensates for the depletion of the battery's energy reserves by recharging them during flight. This trick will allow for longer flights without worrying about battery depletion, while eliminating excess weight.

In recent years, climate change has been increasing at an incredible rate, one of the clearest signs of which is the increase in global temperatures due to the release of large amounts of carbon dioxide (CO2) across the planet. Greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuels used in land and air vehicles and various industries have significantly contributed to the destruction of part of the stratosphere (ozone layer) and global warming, and if the current trend continues, it will lead to the gradual depletion of natural reserves and resources on this rocky planet in less than a few decades. Efforts to develop electrical systems for use in cars and airplanes can greatly reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and we will be able to achieve the goal of zero carbon pollution by improving energy efficiency.

Like other inventions, this invention also has the potential for further development and optimization, and by commercializing it, we can help preserve the unique climate of planet Earth while having a different, safe, and comfortable experience in electric air travel.
