    ◉ Introduction and objectives:

    In this article, we briefly explain a hydroelectric power plant by building a dam on deep shores and generates electricity from seawater.

    Electricity produced by generators that connected to water turbines is called hydroelectricity. In hydroelectric power plants, water passes through turbines to create kinetic energy to rotate the turbine shaft, and then generators convert this kinetic energy into electricity. There are various methods for designing turbines to be deployed along water resources and using the kinetic energy of water as the main driver of electricity generators.


    In many hydroelectric power plants, turbines are placed in the path of the water outlet of a dam so that the necessary driving force is provided for the turbines when the water outlet valve is opened

    and in some other power plants, turbines are placed in the path of the continuous flow of a river or waterfall. In different parts of the world, many large and small dams have been built on the paths of permanent or seasonal rivers. in order to generate energy from this natural resource, in addition to storing water. From the perspective of water resources management, dams can greatly contribute to the provision of drinking water, irrigation of agricultural lands, prevention of soil erosion, and increase the permeability of water to groundwater aquifers and from the perspective of crisis management, dams are also effective infrastructure for reducing the destruction of natural and environmental resources caused by floods.


    The main purpose of building a dam is to provide water resources for basic and essential needs such as drinking and agricultural needs, but if a dam can benefit from the continuous flow of incoming water, other industrial applications are also on the agenda of energy managers.     producing energy from water is not evenly distributed in all regions of the world due to the lack of the same natural resources such as ever-flowing rivers or continuous rainfall. The lack of natural water resources has been one of the biggest and most important serious challenges for countries from the past to the present because in many dry intercontinental regions, countries are deprived of having rivers with high water or rainy seasons and of course, building dams to store water or generate electricity in such areas will never be possible.


    To overcome climate constraints and find a solution to the significant reduction in freshwater resources over the past few decades, which has been caused by rising global temperatures, we must pay more attention to new solutions for recycling the production process and reusing water optimally, given the increasing population growth and urbanization.

    Therefore, I created the new idea to build a dam on the deep coasts to enable the generation of electricity from seawater in dry coastal areas that do not have rivers or regular rainy seasons and also, with the electricity generated, we will have the possibility of launching huge desalination plants for essential uses.


    This idea has the important capability of "water recirculation" in its structure, meaning that in addition to the seashore, we can also use this design near the dam basins located on land. By establishing and using the "recirculating water system" in this project, the amount of water waste has reached zero and after producing the necessary driving force for the generators, we can easily return the water to the dam basin without wasting it or reducing the storage volume.

    It is an undeniable fact that natural freshwater resources are decreasing in all countries, and considering various factors such as decreasing access to water resources, decreasing water resource storage levels, decreasing water level behind dams, growing geological obstacles and limitations, and negative environmental changes, it seems that the only remaining and very practical solution is the idea of ​​using endless and high-pressure sea water behind a pond (sea dam). Despite the high costs that governments have incurred so far for the construction of large dams on rivers or in floodplains, many of these dams have become completely in a critical state and unused due to successive droughts and a sharp increase in global temperatures. In this regard, it is hoped that my new idea, which is to build hydroelectric power plants using a "seawater recycling system," will be used.


    ◉ Technical description of the invention:


    As can be seen in the computer simulation (video at the end of this article), I have designed two different systems for recirculating seawater. In the first design, seawater is recirculated using surplus energy from solar panels, and in the second design, seawater is recirculated using suction and pressure tankers (plumb suction). Although both designs can produce desirable energy from seawater, due to the instability of sunlight, especially at night, the second system (using suction and pressure tankers) can create greater continuity and uniformity for turbine movement and energy production.

    In both methods, to create more power to move the turbines, we need to increase the pressure of the water entering the pond. According to physical principles, the greater the depth and height of the water that is confined in one place, the greater the pressure created due to the pull of gravity on the mass of the water. Accordingly, we need to dig a large, deep, rectangular pit (concrete pond) on the shore to achieve more pressure to speed up the movement of water in the pipes. This concrete pond exactly simulates the performance of the water pressure of a dam for us, with the difference that the entire volume of water is outside this pond and the energy production facilities are located inside the pond. The best places to carry out this project are deep sea beaches because the greater the depth of the water on the shore, the less the pond structure will need to advance towards the sea. The best pressure efficiency is at a depth of 10 to 50 meters, which means that the depth of the dam pit (pond) should not be less than 10 meters.


    As we increase the length of the pond, the amount of pressure that the water exerts on the pond gate naturally increases due to the slope of the shore and the greater depth of water at the end of the pond. According to the laws of physics, the greater the force and the smaller the surface area, the greater the pressure exerted on the surface so, the water inlet gate is placed in the end wall of the pond because the pressure exerted by the accumulation of millions of liters of seawater behind the end wall of the dam creates a high potential for pressure relief and when the water inlet gate is opened, millions of liters of seawater enter the pipes leading to the turbines at a high speed and pressure relief coefficient. Releasing the compressed water behind the gate and directing it into the inlet pipes of the reservoir can act as a powerful driving force for the periodic rotation of the turbines in this dam.

    There are 5 water inlet valves at the front gate of the pond, each equipped with a hydraulic system to open or cut off the water flow. These valves are connected to 5 pipes that deliver pressurized water after crossing the length of the pond to the turbine platform. To take advantage of the maximum pressure intensity, the water inlet valves are mounted at the lowest part near the bottom of the pond also, to prevent the entry of fish and other marine creatures, each valve is equipped with a water inlet filter. The height of the inner walls of the pond is considered equal to the highest pressure efficiency at a depth of 50 meters, although at a lower depth (10 meters) there is still the possibility of natural pumping using the pressure of the high volume of seawater behind the pond.


    Seawater after entering the pipes at the bottom of the pond, continues to move until the water enters the turbine blade chamber at high pressure. This high pressure creates sufficient and suitable force to move the blades and rotate the turbine shaft. The important point is the stability of the alternating flow of water movement because the source of power generation is the boundless waters of the sea, which allows for continuous movement in the turbines without being affected by weather challenges.

    Each turbine is connected to a vertical synchronous generator. This connection is made through the turbine shaft to the generator rotor. The rotor is the rotating part of the power transmission in the generators, which includes the shaft, hub, magnetic wheel and poles. In fact, the rotor shaft transfers torque from the water turbine to the generator, and as the turbine shaft rotates, the generator rotor also rotates and electricity is generated.

    After the water enters the turbine, this pressure flow must exit the other side of the turbine. Given that the height of the pond pit varies between 10 and 50 meters, naturally the movement of water in an anti-gravity and upward direction that is considered as one of the important challenges of this project that I have used two practical solutions to solve this problem. The first solution is to use suction pumps that operate with solar panel energy, and the second solution is vacuum tankers that have the ability to suck water to the desired depth without the need for energy.


    In the first solution, the water outlet pipes from the turbines are designed to the top of the pond to recycle the water to the sea using suction pumps. Given the total dynamic head (the vertical distance that water must be pumped by the pump) and the pressure drop in the pipes, high-flow pumps (displacing a large volume of fluid) must be used to compensate for this friction loss. The selection of the type of suction pumps should be made by considering various factors, including the diameter of the pond's drive pipe, the acidity of the seawater (which is usually in the range of 7.5 to 8.4 with an average of about 8.1), the kinematic viscosity of the seawater (depending on temperature and salinity), and the electrical power of each pump. The next important point is that the minimum power of the power source must be 3 times the power required by the pumps, so to produce electrical power separately from the generators, we must use another interconnected voltage and frequency generation source. For this purpose, and to prevent load consumption and keep the active output power of the main generators, a large number of solar panels have been used to produce independent and separate voltage in this design.

    Despite the good performance of seawater recirculation using suction pumps equipped with solar panels, but to avoid factors such as the costs of installing and maintaining the pump and equipping the pond with a solar panel as a separate energy source, I replaced a more economical and more efficient solution, namely the use of vacuum suction tankers. By using water suction with a vacuum tanker system, we can circulate the volume of water in the pipes without the need for electrical energy. This continuous circulation of water in the pipes helps the turbines rotate more smoothly and providing the energy needed to produce electricity by the generators.


    In this idea, by removing and pushing air molecules out of the isolated chamber of the suction tankers, a powerful vacuum space with high suction properties is created so, if we place two inlet valves on the top and bottom sides of the vacuum tankers to enter energy (water mass) at a constant atmospheric pressure inside the chamber, this change in the internal pressure of the tanker causes the vacuum points (the tanker part without water) to achieve suction capability to equalize the internal pressure. This is due to the inherent nature of atmospheric pressure, which is always accomplished by the compressed movement of molecules from higher regions to lower levels to fill and level the space between molecules.


    This suction capability is activated and involved in the circulation cycle by simultaneously releasing the upper inlet valve (half without water) and the lower outlet valve of the vacuum tanker (half with water). This is due to the physical nature of vacuum in the continuation of low air pressure in a closed environment compared to the atmospheric pressure of the air outside that environment. In fact, the failure of the tanker chamber pressure to reach the limit of absolute vacuum (zero pressure and no gas molecules), leads to a relative change in pressure and creates continuous movement in the entry and exit of water without the use of electric pumps. In other words, suction tankers convert vacuum into energy for powerful pumping of water.

    In this idea, I placed a small pond behind the turbine platform and at the end of the main dam pond, which is actually the outlet for the water from the turbines. The existence of this pond helps the suction tankers to draw water from the upper valve of the tanker into the vacuum chamber with a constant and unfluctuating pressure (caused by the movement of the turbine blades) and then return it to the sea through the lower valve of the tanker. There is a possibility of the constant atmospheric pressure inside the vacuum tankers being disrupted if this pond is not used and the tanker pipes are directly connected to the turbines, because the alternating flow of water suction is interrupted if the constant atmospheric pressure inside the vacuum tankers is disrupted.


    Building a hydroelectric power plant using clean energy from seawater can both help significantly reduce gas and chemical pollutants around the world and, as an important infrastructure, accelerate the international community's policymaking in encouraging more countries to use renewable and environmentally friendly resources.


    Like other inventions, this invention also has the potential for further development and optimization, and its commercialization can make a significant contribution to reducing environmental degradation.
