    ◉ Introduction and objectives:

In this article, I will briefly explain the invention of a new method of converting clouds into drinkable water using a system for sucking up fine water particles suspended in the air.

Several factors are involved in the rain-bearing properties of clouds. From the classification of clouds to the environmental factors affecting precipitation, all can lead to the rain-producing or non rain-producing (sterile) properties of a cloud mass. Clouds are classified into three main layers consisting of the highest layer, the middle layer, and the lowest layer, which in each of these three layers, specific clouds are located. Cloud height can vary across a wide range of these three layers because the location of different types of cloud formations is directly related to their height. In addition to altitude as an important factor for cloud precipitation, other factors such as temperature, humidity, and atmospheric stability at the location of cloud formation can also control water condensation and precipitation at that location. Also, the rain-producing nature of cloud masses can be related to their type, meaning that the volume density of suspended water particles relative to the height level in a specific type of cloud mass can be considered a complementary factor in the possibility or inability of condensation and precipitation.

The height of a cloud mass depends on several factors. These factors include: the rate of temperature drop and the height at which an air mass cools to the dew point as it rises - the amount of moisture in the dry or moist air mass to reach the saturation and condensation point - the mechanism of forced ascent and convergence of the air mass due to environmental lifting - convective instability and surface heating - the level of lifting condensation and the height at which an air mass reaches the saturation limit as it rises - The level of free convection (LFC), the equilibrium level (EL), and the type of cloud condensation nuclei on the microphysical scale (number and size of droplets) - and finally, deep convection of the mass on a large scale, such as high tops of cloud masses in tropical regions, shallow tops of cloud masses in cold polar regions. With this explanation, we understand that the height of a cloud mass can vary from zero above the ground (fog formation) to several kilometers. Also, the tops of cloud masses can vary from several kilometers to more than 20 kilometers in deep convection, which depending on the height, the cloud may or may not have the potential to become condensation and precipitation.

Although the average annual rainfall on Earth is estimated to be close to one meter, but differences in latitude, wind types, changes and shifts in magnetic orbits, and other environmental factors around the Earth have caused the rainfall to be uneven and equal in all parts of the Earth. Areas with high rainfall have characteristics such as: proximity to oceans and lakes as a constant source of moisture, low and warm latitudes for water evaporation in areas close to the equator, The topography of the area to the rise of warm air masses such as mountain ranges along the coasts, and regular humid winds (Trade winds) that blow from the high-pressure subtropical regions of the ocean towards the low-pressure tropical regions on land. In contrast, areas with little or no precipitation do not have the aforementioned geographic, topographic, and oceanic movement characteristics on their local climates, or even have no precipitation characteristics at all due to factors such as rain shadows from mountains and high-pressure weather systems.

However, in most dry regions of the world and in certain seasons, we witness a mass of non-rain-producing clouds in the low-level category, which consists of stratocumulus, stratus, fog (clouds on the ground), and cumulus hominis. Low-level cloud clusters extend from near the Earth's surface to about 2 km above. Although all clouds are made up of very small suspended water droplets, depending on environmental conditions in some parts of the world, low-level cloud clusters do not have the density necessary to accumulate light and small water droplets around suspended particles and gain the potential to become heavy and fall to the ground. In such a case, the sky is a completely cloud-covered area for weeks (light and small suspended water droplets), but without a single drop of rain falling from such clouds, they leave the area with the wind or the movement of air masses, and this was the point that formed the initial structure of my idea, namely "preventing the escape of clouds"!

To prevent "cloud mass escape", I tested various methods and repeated accurate computer tests, which ultimately achieved the best results in engineering simulator tests, using the "cloud mass water particle suction system" at different altitudes. This system offers the highest 100% efficiency at two altitude levels, one at the zero altitude bases of the mountains, which are the center of cloud accumulation and formation, and the other at the bases below 2 km above the ground, which are the location of low-level clouds. Most dry and low-rainfall areas of the world have mountains, so these mountains can be a very good place to trap and "cloud hunt" because at the heights of the mountains, the air pressure and temperature decrease, so when the warm and light air (warm water vapor) rises and reaches there, it quickly condenses and forms tiny water particles (clouds and white fog) which in the technical description section of this article, I have described in detail how to trap and hunt clouds at both zero altitude and 2 km altitude.

◉ Technical description of the invention:

In both the "zero base level" and "2 km base level" methods, I have used the "new water vapor suction system" to catch clouds, but because of the low operational and implementation costs in the "zero base level" method, I will first explain the details of this method. In the "zero base level" method, we are actually generating large amounts of water from large masses of non-rain-producing clouds that form at high altitudes when they collide with mountains. Clouds that form over mountains include stratus and lenticular clouds. Some clouds form when air meets mountains or other high elevations. In such a situation, the warm moist air rises and cools and this colder air is no longer able to hold all the water vapor it could when it was warm, so the excess water vapor begins to condense into tiny and light droplets of water and forming cloud masses in the middle of the mountains. However, these huge and widespread masses do not always produce rain and in arid and semi-arid climates, they disappear without any precipitation as the air masses move, after a period of several hours to several days, depending on climate changes.

Sometimes clouds are formed due to the rising air in mountainous areas because the mountain is warmer than the surrounding air and causes the air to rise, which in this process, as mentioned before, the process of cloud formation occurs at mountain heights. The types of clouds that form in this state include cumulonimbus, mammatus, and cumulus. However, despite the formation of cloud masses in mountainous areas or near mountains, as I mentioned, these cloud masses are not always rain-producing and usually disappear due to three main reasons: increasing temperature, mixing with drier air, and sinking of air inside the mass. For example, where I live, near mount "Geno" with an altitude of 2347 meters in southern Iran, located north of the tropical "Bandar Abbas city", huge cloud masses are always formed at an altitude of 1000 meters and above along the wall of "Geno", but most of the time no precipitation occurs in that area and after a while the cloud masses disappear.

The reason for the loss of cloud mass density and their disappearance in "Mount Geno" is the additional charge of heat and moisture from the southern regions. As the air descends, it warms adiabatically, which causes evaporation and erosion of the cloud mass. Typically, erosion occurs when dynamic absorption mechanisms are activated and enhanced over a cloud mass field. Dynamic absorption factors include the mechanisms of: low-level CAA (Cold Air Advection), and NVA (Negative Vorticity Advection or surface divergence and downward flow). It should be noted that adiabatic is a process in which there is no exchange of mass, moisture, or momentum between an air mass and its surroundings as it moves upward or downward. However, as I learned in my studies, the adiabatic theory is not a fixed climatic law or immutable principle, and it does not always work accurately because if drier, wetter, warmer, or colder air is mixed with an air mass, the thermodynamic properties of the new mass will change.

On the other hand, air movements near the surface and mountain slopes are affected by friction, which causes air mixing and turbulence, and these turbulent processes gradually erode the adiabatic process. Therefore, an air parcel near the surface mixes more quickly with its surroundings, and these surface heat fluxes and then surface evaporation affect the adiabatic process. In simple terms, when an air mass is exposed to the earth's surface, it becomes easier to add or subtract moisture and heat to it, so as a result, the persistence of the water vapor condensation coefficient decreases and the clouds disappear more quickly in such areas. An important point to note is that the very small water particles in the cloud (the molecules in the cloud) do not disappear even if the cloud gradually disappears. In fact, these tiny water droplets turn into water vapor by combining with environmental factors and change their location with horizontal or vertical movements of the atmospheric pattern, forming a new and visible cloud mass again in another location or at higher altitudes.

In various parts of the world, especially the Middle East, such as southern Iran, for years, national development programs and provincial water resource distribution patterns have been faced with serious challenges in providing fresh water due to global climate and weather changes, and in addition to the natural problem of large cloud masses not producing rain. In this regard, and to solve the problem of non-precipitating cloud masses, I invented a system for direct suction of fine water particles (suspended water molecules) and light warm water vapor that is in cloud masses. As I mentioned above, the first and least expensive method is to use the "zero base level" method with a suction system to collect fine suspended water particles and water vapor on the mid- to high altitudes of the mountains. In this method, we need to launch stations with condensate storage basins (water extracted from fog and cloud masses) on heights near the summit or mid-mountain heights where fog and cloud formation is most often found.

As can be seen in the video at the end of this article, this station consists of: a large condensate storage pond, the power station required to start the station, a powerful air suction turbine, a short horn hose for sucking fine water particles, a heater for heating fine water particles, a pump for sucking water droplets into the pond, and a pressure pump for distributing water to residential areas. In the first method, "base level zero", all water condensation equipment is located on the ground. In this method, the location of the station is selected according to the height and density of fog and clouds in the middle or the peak of the mountain. The higher the mountain, the greater the cloud formation due to the ascending mechanism after hitting the mountain wall, because the hot water vapor, as it is pulled upwards and placed in a colder temperature, becomes more dense and begins to form small suspended droplets of liquid water and cloud masses. This natural phenomenon occurs in almost all mountain ranges in different regions, and all we have to do is collect tiny water droplets from fog and clouds that due to lack of proper density, do not have the ability to produce rain and larger water droplets.

After fog and clouds enter the station equipment deployment area, the powerful air suction throat turbine is activated and the water vapor suction process begins. Water vapor which consists of fine, light particles of warm water suspended in the air, is sucked into the turbine suction pipe. As water vapor enters the mesh filter that absorbs tiny water vapor droplets, these droplets combine with each other and form larger droplets of water condensation. Simultaneously with the water vapor suction process, the pump starts to suck water droplets from the pipe filter into the water storage pond. The small and large water droplets stick together and gain more density, when placed in the second stage of suction by the pressure pump, then flow as thin streams of flowing water through the throat of the pump pipe into the pond or water storage tank. Water extracted from fog and clouds has exactly the same properties and concentration as rainwater, with the difference that in this method, the intensity and rate of water droplet storage is gradual and slower than in rapid and widespread rainfall. However, the amount of water extracted can be much greater than in intermittent rainfall because with this method, almost all of the cloud water vapor mass located on the mountain is converted into complete water condensation.

In the second method, which is the "2-kilometer base level", most of the station's heavy and main equipment is on the ground and the light part of collecting fine water particles is suspended by several large helium balloons in the clouds. In this method, the equipment section includes a large condensate storage pond, the power substation to run the station, a powerful horn-throat turbine for air suction, a pump for sucking water droplets into the pond, and a pressure pump for distributing water to residential areas. The aerial equipment section also includes: a long hose for sucking up fine water particles, a heater for heating fine water particles, and 2 large balloons filled with helium gas to deliver the aerial equipment to the low altitudes where the clouds are located. Depending on the height of the cloud, 3 balloons can also be used. In this method, the most important part of the station is the aerial equipment section, which must be located in the area of highest cloud density to suck up the most suspended particles of water and then, after passing it through the suction hose connected to the balloon which suspended in the air, it is discharged into the pump located on the ground and then into the station pond.

The suction hose is made of very light and carbon plastic to impose the least weight on the balloon and allow the balloon to rise to a maximum height of 2,000 meters. Although in high areas, most clouds are below 1000 meters and even 500 meters above the ground, considering the variable height of cloud formation in different areas, I designed this system in such a way that by increasing or decreasing the number of balloons, we can control the height of the ascent and the location of the balloons depending on the height of the cloud. At the end of the suction hose where it is connected to the balloons, a funnel-shaped inlet is designed to suck the mass of fine water particles in the cloud. This funnel is equipped with 4 heaters to heat the fine water particles so that at the entrance of the funnel, the particles stick together easily and quickly and form heavier and larger water droplets. These droplets adhere to a very thin and light cross-wire mesh located on the inner wall of the suction hose and are then pulled downwards as thin streaks of water by the suction of the station's turbine.

As can be seen in the video at the end of this article, due to the suction mechanism at the mouth of the funnel, a large volume of cloud mass is sucked into the hose connected to the balloon in a twisted and intertwined manner. This vortex created at the mouth of the funnel and where the heater is located causes a more compact and dense volume of water vapor particles to collide with each other and, due to exposure to the hotter temperature of the mouth of the funnel, they quickly turn into large water droplets. Then the suction pressure of the turbine causes very small water droplets to be pulled downwards and, when they hit the inner wall of the suction hose, they settle on the cross-wire grid and, due to their fluidity, stick to the wire grid and form larger droplets. These larger droplets, due to their greater weight, gravity, and the turbine suction pressure charge, roll over on the wire mesh and are sucked into the end of the hose (where the discharge pump is into the pond). At the end of the hose, these very large drops of water flow into a large volume of narrow, flowing streams of water into the pool or storage pond. I have also designed and mounted two outlet pipes on both sides of the pond to distribute water extracted from the cloud mass to residential areas.

At the end of this article, I would like to point out that the current and conventional seeding method for rain from cloud masses is ineffective and inefficient for various reasons and even leads to the opposite effect and makes non rain-bearing clouds masses. Cloud seeding is a process that causes rain to form in clouds by adding silver iodide or dry ice particles to the cloud mass. However, if the cloud mass has the necessary density to produce rain naturally, adding too much silver iodide particles causes a large number of ice crystals and very cold droplets in the cloud mass, and instead of turning into rain or snow droplets, the water vapor is divided into a large number of small, very light suspended nuclei that do not have enough weight to precipitate as rain or snow. In most cases, the result of cloud seeding methods performed in cloudy areas has led to a reduction or complete disappearance of rainfall, which is considered one of the important factors of "cloud sterilization".

The strong dependence of the effectiveness of the cloud seeding method on the specific conditions of climatic humidity and geographical structure in each region makes this method completely ineffective and inefficient in countries such as Iran, because 90% of the provinces of Iran are not classified as areas that have sufficient humidity to successfully absorb and combine with chemicals, and there is only less than a 10% chance of successfully using the cloud seeding method in Iran. But on the other hand, more than 90 percent of the regions of Iran have the potential to use the invention of the "water particle suction system" because there are sufficient and necessary natural cloud condensation nuclei(CCN) in them. These condensation nuclei are the tiny suspended particles that water vapor can adhere to and condense to become water. These particles include dust, suspended sea salts, or various natural pollutants that are abundant in most parts of Iran. We just need to collect and store them using the idea I created in the form of the invention of the "water particle suction system" so that the concern about continuous droughts due to lack of rainfall in areas with little rainfall in all continents of the world can be permanently resolved.

Like other inventions, this invention also has the potential for further development and optimization. Using the "water particle suction system" can greatly help solve the problem of water shortage or limited water storage in various areas with little or no rainfall throughout the world.
